In the Kulisusu area both children and adults play tug of war. Especially on August 17th, which is Indonesian Independence Day, teams come to Ereke from all the villages and schools, and people on the sidelines are very excited and emotional for their own team to win. Other times of the year children in our public schools play tug of war as an intramural sport.
Usually we compete with eleven people on a side. The center of the rope is marked with a marker, which is aligned with a center line on the ground. On both sides a few feet from the middle, another line is drawn on the ground. A referee tells the teams when to start, and whichever team is successful in pulling the marker in their direction past their line is the winner.
